Don’t “Yup” Me!
I hate it when I say “Thank you,” and the other person says, “Yup.”
Yup = Yes
Me: “Thank you.”
Cashier/Coworker/Whoever: “Yes.”Yes??? You’re confirming that yes, I thank you?
Reminder: The proper response to “thank you” is “You’re welcome!”
Are we that lazy now? We simply cannot be bothered with three syllables? We needed to cut it down to “Yup”? And who came up with this “yup” crap, anyway? And if we wanted to shorten the phrase —because my GOD, using it might cause us to have to, I don’t know, draw in an extra breath?— wouldn’t we cut it down to something like, I don’t know, “Welcome”, maybe? I know you’re probably saying, “But Vaness… that’s STILL two whole syllables!”
I guess we can’t have this:
Me: “Thank you!”
Cashier/Coworker/Whoever: “Come!”And saying “wel” just sounds stupid.
So how about, just for the heck of it, we stick with “You’re welcome” or “Welcome!”?
At least, until something better than “Yup!” comes along?

i always say, ‘no problem’.
@SecksyRx3 - …And that is an EXCELLENT response to “Thank you”… only it is still three syllables! LOL!
how about “sure!”? that’s one syllable and I’ve heard cashiers/clerks say that…
ha ha ha I hate that too!
@Konfoozed_Girrrl - ”Sure” sounds too much like “Yup” or “Yes” to me. LOL
@makeupforlifee - It’s one of my pet peeves!
In the grand scheme of things, does it really matter all that much?
@tx_christian - LOL no. But in the every day scheme of things, yes.
@SamsPeeps - Okay, just checking
yup!
Man, that’s way rude! Totally agreed though! ^_^
yup.
@digood1974 - @tim00 - VERY funny!
I find it rather amusing when people respond with “yup” and the like. It creates those wonderful, awkward, embarassing moments where you stand there thinking, “now what?”
I particularly enjoy doing that to people, so thank you for giving me a new way to annoy people just a little further. =P
For the record, I’m trained to respond with “you’re welcome.”

LOL – you are completely right. When a 9 year old boy bumps into someone’s cart at the store and says “Excuse Me” and the person gives me a look like I have 3 heads because he was polite, there is something wrong with the world. I taught my children manners and guess what….they use them.
down here, it’s “yep”
