A Little Mom Music
Perry Como was one of my mom’s favourite performers.
When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high
An’ don’t be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark!Walk on through the wind, walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed an’ blown
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone . . .
You’ll never walk alone!Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone . . .
You’ll never walk alone!

I remember the words to that one song from like a church song or something. Otherwise, I don’t know him. I don’t think my parents listened to him either but I could be wrong. I’d have to hear more then these, but I really don’t think they liked him. Mom was Sinatra all the way and dad was blues and jazz like Billie Holiday and Count Bassie.
@DivaJyoti - aw, thanks for rec’ing! xo
You’ll Never Walk Alone is from a musical called “Carousel” (Rodgers & Hammerstein). I think a LOT of folks recorded it, even Mario Lanza, another of my mom’s faves. I bet it’s been played at weddings; maybe that’s why you associate it with a church song?
Just missing my mom, so I’ll probably be posting a little more of “her” music this week. I don’t know. I was hoping to post some writing, but nope.
OMG. That was a blast from the past. I remember “Papa Loves Mambo” as one of my favourite songs when I was about 8 years old.
That takes me back to Sunday nights sitting on the floor at my Grandparents.
This is a good start to a Friday, Ness. Thanks!
He was one whose music could be enjoyed by all of us. Thank you for posting these.
In high school our music teacher tried to get us to sing this song. I don’t remember if she ever managed. A lovely song but not suitable for a choir of 9th and 10th graders who were out of touch with that type of music.
my parents listened to Perry Como all the time! Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
They called him “The Singing Barber”, his earlier job. They also called him the most relaxed singer. The very first skit on the very first SCTV, Eugene Levy did Perry Como, lying down, almost asleep singing his songs onstage. Later, Eugene did Como updating his act singing disco songs. You can see that on Youtube.
I was at an estate sale today and the woman had collected a lot of cds and tapes including Como. I opted for 4 Nat Cole ones instead.
Wow I think he was even before my time. Great videos.
I reckon I’m a little vague on that guy. His words are inspirational though.
I loved his sound very much when I was a child. I loved the musical “Carousel” too! I found an album with this song when I was a teen and my sister and I used to sing it all the time.
A good visit over here today
